India: 40-storey illegal twin towers to be demolished today
Two illegally constructed skyscrapers in India will be demolished today.
According to Indian media, the 40-story twin towers near the capital New Delhi will be demolished this afternoon.
Thousands of residents are still being evacuated from the two buildings, with Indian officials saying the 103-meter-tall twin buildings will be brought down in seconds by 3,700 kilograms of explosives.
Nearby residents will be evacuated from the area for 5 hours on Sunday morning.
Traffic will be restricted on side roads and Noida Expressway will also be closed for half an hour.
The 80,000 tons of debris disposal of the two buildings will be completed in the next three months.
This will be the biggest operation to demolish illegal constructions in India so far.
Last year, the Supreme Court of India declared the two buildings illegal and ordered them to be demolished.
